Senior System Software Engineer
We are looking for a Senior Systems Software Engineer to architect and build high-performance pipelines that process complex data streams in real-time.

In this role, you will live "close to the metal." You will bridge the gap between heavy media processing (GStreamer) and modern AI inference (ONNX/CUDA). You will play a pivotal role in rewriting legacy systems into Rust while maintaining critical C++ components, ensuring our software runs efficiently on Linux environments.

If you are obsessed with memory safety, zero-copy architecture, and squeezing every millisecond of latency out of a GPU, this role is for you.

This is a Full-Time onsite opportunity and our office is based in San Mateo.
Responsibilities

-
Pipeline Architecture: Design and implement low-latency multimedia processing pipelines using GStreamer. You will write custom GStreamer plugins in Rust and C/C++ to handle specific business logic.
-
AI Integration: Implement high-performance ML inference engines. You will integrate ONNX Runtime into our C++/Rust stack and utilize CUDA for hardware acceleration and pre/post-processing tasks.
-
Systems Programming: Develop system-level software on Linux. This includes handling multi-threading, memory management, and inter-process communication (IPC) to ensure stability under heavy load.
-
Modernization: Lead the initiative to introduce safe, concurrent Rust code into existing C/C++ codebases, handling FFI (Foreign Function Interface) complexities.
-
Performance Optimization: Profile execution bottlenecks using tools like generic Linux profilers (perf, Valgrind) and GPU-specific profilers (Nsight Systems).
-
Mentorship: Act as a technical lead, conducting code reviews and mentoring junior engineers on systems programming best practices.

Qualifications
Required:
-
B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in Systems Programming.
-
Language Mastery:
-
Fluent in Modern C++ (C++14/17/20).
-
Strong production experience with Rust (including Tokio, Serde, and FFI).
-
-
Linux Deep Dive: Profound understanding of the Linux OS (kernel concepts, concurrency models, socket programming, and device drivers).
-
GStreamer Fluency: You have gone beyond gst-launch. You have written custom elements/plugins, understand pad negotiation, buffer pools, and zero-copy data transfer.
-
Hardware Acceleration & AI:
-
Hands-on experience with CUDA programming (memory hierarchy, streams, synchronization).
-
Proven experience deploying models using ONNX Runtime or TensorRT in a C++ or Rust environment.
-

Preferred:
-
Relevant professional cloud certification (e.g., AWS Developer/Architect, Microsoft Azure Developer/Architect, Google Cloud Developer/Architect)
-
Experience with NVIDIA DeepStream SDK.
-
Knowledge of video codecs (H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1) and container formats.
-
Experience working on Edge devices (NVIDIA Jetson, Xavier, Orin).
-
Familiarity with Python for tooling and bindings (PyO3).
-
Experience contributing to open-source multimedia or systems projects.

Collaboration and Soft Skills:
-
Excellent technical communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams (AI Engineers, Product Managers, other software teams).
-
Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues across cloud, web, and edge environments.
-
Experience working effectively within an Agile/Scrum development methodology.

Benefits
-
Competitive compensation and stock options
-
Medical, dental, and vision insurance
-
Term life insurance
-
401(k) without employer matching
-
Discretionary time off (DTO) leave policy
Location
San Mateo, CA, on-site
