San Francisco, CA. May 25, 2022 – Kaliber Labs is pleased to congratulate its Chief Medical Officer, Richard L. Angelo, M.D., Ph.D., on receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), in recognition of his service and initiatives that have shaped and expanded AANA’s training and research programs.
Dr. Angelo received the Distinguished Service Award at the AANA22 Annual Meeting on May 21, 2022, in San Francisco. At the same meeting, Drs. Stephen J. Snyder and Nicholas A. Sgaglione received the AANA Lifetime Achievement and AANA Distinguished Service Awards, respectively.
Established in 1981, AANA’s mission is “to advance the art and science of arthroscopy… through education, skills assessment and advocacy” and is the most respected source of new techniques, information, and continuing medical education in the subspecialty of arthroscopic surgery.
In 30 years of service to the organization, Dr. Angelo served as president of AANA and was responsible for launching the Magellan Project, a global and comprehensive initiative that evaluated and adopted specific models for teaching arthroscopic techniques. As principal investigator of the AANA Copernicus Initiative, he and his colleagues investigated and proved the merits and superiority of proficiency-based progression training for surgical skills when compared to the traditional apprenticeship training model.
Dr. Angelo continues to promote evidence-based training and practices in arthroscopy and is continually dedicated to promoting the highest standards in orthopedic and arthroscopic care.
